It is always preferable for a student to practice at home on a well-tuned acoustic piano.  However, we understand that this is a very significant financial commitment.  The quality of digital pianos has risen to a point where we feel it is sufficient for a beginning to intermediate student to play on one on a daily basis.  The quality and features vary significantly from one brand/model to another, however.  Therefore, we have put together digital piano packages that can be ordered through Mountain Valley Studios (see below).  This will ensure that the student will be working on an instrument that meets our recommendations.

All complete Piano Package purchases are eligible for the Mountain Valley Studios Piano Buy Back Program after the student has completed a minimum of four (4) months of lessons.

If you choose to purchase a piano elsewhere, please make note of the following: 

• The manufacturer's description should describe it as a "digital piano", not a "keyboard"
• There should be 88 keys and a pedal
• The description should include "touch sensitive" and "weighted".  It may also include "hammer action"
• Please purchase a piano stand and a bench, instead of using kitchen table and chair, etc.  This enables the student to practice using good posture and hand positioning.  We do not recommend X-style stands for digital pianos.  Digital pianos are heavier than keyboards, and X-style stands simply aren't sturdy enough to be safe for children.
