Michael Serbantez -- Concert Percussion, Marching Percussion, Trapset
Michael Serbantez is an active performer and freelance teacher throughout the Metroplex. He studied percussion at Texas Christian University from 2002 – 2007. While at TCU, Michael won the 2004/2005 Concerto Competition and placed 5th in the solo timpani category during the 2004 Percussive Arts Society Marching Festival. He also performed with the percussion ensemble during their first showcase appearance at the 2005 Percussive Arts Society International Convention and was bass drum captain for the 2006 TCU PASIC Champion Indoor Drumline. After TCU, Michael accepted the position as Director of Percussion for Western Hills High School in Fort Worth from 2007 until 2010 where his students continually outdid themselves including a 5th place award at their first appearance in the Lonestar Classic Drumline Competition in 2008, 3rd and 4th place in the 2010 Day of Percussion Festival at Paschal High School, and ranked among the most numerous and highest percussion placements at the FWISD All-District Auditions, UIL All-Region 7 auditions, and UIL All-Area auditions during all three years.
Michael is an active performer throughout Fort Worth playing vibes, piano, hand drums, and drumset among other things. He is currently working with several local projects and playing everything from rock to salsa. In addition to performing, Michael is also active as a writer and arranger for marching and concert percussion. He is incredibly fortunate to have studied percussion with some of the best North Texas has to offer including Brian West, Richard Gipson, Paul Rennick, Brian Lowe, and his personal hero, Joey Carter.
