Mike Medley - Private Instructor - All Band Instruments

Picture
Mike Medley is, perhaps, the most versatile musician you will ever meet.  He truly lives up to his name by being very comfortable with a whole “medley” of instruments.   By the time Mike graduated from JF Dulles High School in Stafford, TX, he had met his personal goal of mastering all of the full-range major and minor scales and all of the assigned band music on trombone, trumpet, tube, euphonium, flute, and saxophone.  During high school, he also received such honors as alternate bass trombonist for All-State Band (twice), Area placement on the euphonium his senior year, “Who’s Who in American High Schools”, and the Outstanding Student for Band.  He also played in the All-State Symphony Orchestra his senior year.

Mike Medley earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree, as well as a Bachelor of Music Performance from Texas Tech University.  His primary instruments were tenor and bass trombone, but he also continued to study woodwinds, jazz, and conducting.  During his undergraduate years, he was the winner of the university concerto competition on the bass trombone, was selected to transcribe a Rachmaninoff piano concerto for the Symphonic Band, was chosen to tour with the American Waterways Wind Orchestra, and gave two senior recitals scheduled only 6 weeks apart.

Mike came within 5 credit hours of receiving a Master of Music Education degree from Eastern new Mexico University, while serving as assistant band director for Valencia ES 4th and 5th grade bands.

Mr. Medley’s list of performing experiences is seemingly endless.  He has performed in diverse settings, ranging from church praise team, to tejano band, to flute choir, to a trombone ensemble, to jazz band, of community orchestra, to musical theater pit.  He has performed with such talents at Paul English, Doc Severinson, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, to name just a few.  He has performed professionally and/or semi-professionally on nearly every instrument.

Mike also has a great deal of teaching experience.  He has taught at the middle school and high school levels, on nearly every instrument, as both band director and private instructor.  He has guided several of his students to the Texas All-State level.  Most recently, he has served as private tutor for Forney ISD, teaching flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, bassoon, trombone, French horn, and tuba.
