Susanne Maynard, MT-BC, NMT
Group Guitar Classes, Hand-Drumming Classes, Music Therapy

Picture
Susanne has always had a passion and love for music. She was given her first guitar at the age of twelve and has been playing and singing ever since! As a teenager she led worship at a Saturday Night folk service and also performed in local nursing homes where her mother was a volunteer.  Today she continues to use her love of music to enhance and empower the lives of others as a board certified music therapist and guitar instructor. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in music therapy with a minor in voice from Sam Houston State University, completing her clinical internship at Pathways Hospice in Fort Collins, CO. She recently furthered her studies at the Robert F.Unkefer Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy, maintained at Colorado State University, earning the professional designation of Neurologic Music Therapist.   She has done work with the elderly, children on the Autism spectrum, women who have experienced domestic violence, and terminally ill patients and their families. When working with children, she believes it is important to involve the parent and encourages the application of therapeutic music activities in the home.

In her work as a music therapist, Susanne often uses the guitar as an accompaniment instrument for the voice. She enjoys teaching basic guitar skills class and finger picking techniques, giving even beginning students the immediate satisfaction of successfully making music together!
